ഭൗതികപ്രപഞ്ചത്തെ മൊത്തത്തിൽ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്ന പദമാണ് പ്രകൃതി (ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്: Nature). ഭൗതികപ്രതിഭാസങ്ങളും ജീവനും പ്രകൃതിയുടെ ഘടകങ്ങളാണ്. മനുഷ്യനിർമിതമായ വസ്തുക്കളെ പ്രകൃതിയുടെ ഭാഗമായി കണക്കാക്കാറില്ല. അവയെ കൃത്രിമം എന്ന് വിവക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പദമായ nature എന്നതിൻറെ ഉൽപത്തി ലാറ്റിൻ പദമായ natura എന്നതിൽ നിന്നാണ്. പ്രകൃതി എന്ന പദം പ്രപഞ്ചത്തെയും അതിലെ സമസ്ത പ്രതിഭാസങ്ങളെയും ഉൾ‍ക്കൊള്ളുന്നു.
ഭൂമി
അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഗ്രഹങ്ങളിൽ ജീവൻ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നതായി അറിവുള്ള ഏകഗ്രഹമാണ് ഭൂമി. സൗരയൂഥത്തിൽ സൂര്യനിൽ നിന്ന് മൂന്നാം സ്ഥാനമാണ് ഭൂമിക്ക് ഉള്ളത്.

പ്രപഞ്ചത്തിലെ വസ്തുക്കളുടെ അന്തരീക്ഷത്തിന് പുറത്തുള്ള താരതമ്യേന ശൂന്യമായ സ്ഥലത്തെ ബഹിരാകാശം എന്ന് പറയുന്നു(?).
Nature
The words nature and natural are used for all the things that are normally not made by humans. Things like weather, organisms, landforms, celestial bodies and much more are part of nature. Scientists study the way the parts of nature work. Things that have been made by people are said to be man-made or called an artifact.
There are Natural sciences that study different parts of nature, for example the science of ecology is about plants and animals as a whole, while biology tends to study each of these animals by themself.

In many ways humans and nature can be said to be in conflict. Nature is often seen by humans as natural resources. People cut down trees to get wood to burn, to build houses, or to make a place to grow food. Fires, cars, and factories make a lot of smoke and harm many different places, it's especially worse in towns and cities, even in some villages. People who like to leave nature unharmed and those who feel they need to use more of nature often fight about what they should do. In the modern world, with many people and many big cities, these problems are becoming more serious.
